Position: INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORT ANALYST - Unix and Oracle

Job Type: CONTRACT

Location: Toronto, ON

Travel: 5%

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide infrastructure support to routine projects/initiatives as they
relate to the design, implementation and support of infrastructure
technology in a UNIX and Wintel environment running Oracle database.



MAJOR ACTIVITIES:

a.. Provide technical support to the development teams during
infrastructure design, software builds, and support phases of
initiatives/projects.
b.. Implement standards and roadmaps for hardware and software . Provide
input and recommendations on infrastructure initiatives based Project Team
requirements.
c.. Build and rebuild hardware environments, including repointing to
different servers, property files etc., on a regular basis to keep up with a
Delivery Team that rolls out a new Release of software every month.
d.. Analyze studies regarding system usage, make recommendations for
improvements, capacity plans, component failure analyses and determine
infrastructure system requirements.
e.. Review, rationalize and document all existing hardware and software
environments using Visio.
f.. Analyze, and test emerging hardware and infrastructure software
solutions for continuous improvement.
Requirements:


a.. Extensive Knowledge of UNIX and Oracle are mandatory.
b.. Managing Multiple Priorities--Ability to manage multiple concurrent
objectives, projects, groups or activities. Effective judgment in
prioritizing and time allocation.
c.. Technical Troubleshooting--Knowledge of approaches, tools and
techniques for anticipating, recognizing, and resolving technical (hardware,
software, application, network or operational) problems.
d.. Systems Software Infrastructure--Knowledge of the existing and planned
software technology and the global, regional and local software architecture
and infrastructure components.
e.. Hardware Infrastructure--Familiarity with hardware technology and the
global, regional and local hardware architecture, as well as knowledge of
configuration and property files.
f.. Skills: Product Support - 3 year(s)

a.. Written Communications--Ability to produce proper technical
documentation that is clear and precise.
b.. Problem Solving--Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for
recognizing, anticipating, and resolving network, infrastructure,
operational or process problems.
c.. Oral Communications--Ability to express oneself and communicate with
others verbally.
d.. Interpersonal Relationships--Knowledge of approaches, tools and
techniques for working with individuals and groups in a constructive and
collaborative manner.
e.. Creativity--Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for
promoting creative, original thinking and applying it to existing and
emerging situations.
f.. Computer Operations--Knowledge of the data center operating
environment and day-to-day operational requirements.
g.. Decision Making and Critical Thinking--Knowledge of tools and
techniques for effective use of a broad range of factors, assumptions,
frameworks and perspectives when solving problems.

a.. Resolving technical issues by pulling anecdotal and factual
information from a number of sources in order to formulate a root cause.
b.. With general guidance from the Director, ensuring that solutions are
within the guidelines of security/audit standards and industry best
practice.
c.. Building environments in a multi-tasking multi-release environment,
requiring concise and fail-safe results
d.. Remaining current with business needs, evolving technological products
and features, ever changing business needs and modifications to internal
standards and industry best practice.
e.. Making technology decisions that determine availability of
infrastructure based on pre-approved guidelines.
